Morbidly Obese

So last night, I did something that I try not to ever do. Plop my butt down in front of the TV and start channel surfing. For some reason in my mind I find that watching TV is a waste of time, whereas playing video games all night is not. Pretty weird. Anyways, I changed the channel to TLC and I couldn't turn away. They had two shows on back to back. The first was called 627lb. Woman, and the next was called Half Ton Man. It was like watching a train wreck, I couldn't turn away. Both shows were equally disgusting, but I felt sorry for the people. At that point it is a disease just like alcoholism or drug dependency. Those people just don't have the stop eating gene. The half ton man hadn't left his house in 7 years! I couldn't imagine anything like that. We should all be thankful that we don't have that problem, or know anyone that has that problem. If the shows are on I encourage you to watch them, they are pretty interesting. It really makes being 10-20lbs overweight seem trivial.

Wednesday Exercise: 9 miles bike, 1 hr mowing the lawn
Wednesday ABC's: 325ml of wine. Evil wife made me drink.

I haven't seen those two shows, but I have seen another show about obese people who are getting gastrointestinal surgery, and on there, there are people who are easily 400 or 500 lbs. It is sad. And disgusting at the same time.

Regarding TV watching and guilt: I always feel like I'm not allowed to watch TV during the day (movies are different; they're okay). If I'm doing something, like eating lunch or cleaning, then I can have the TV on, but I'm not really "watching" it. This probably stems from my childhood when my mom wouldn't let us watch TV when it was light out.

But at night, totally different story. I can sit, zonked out in front of the boob tube for hours. As was demonstrated last night after the butt-plosion (Jerry and I watched, like, 2 and 1/2 hours of "Freaks and Geeks" -- best, cancelled series ever; well, next to "Arrested Development").

Phew! My comment was nearly as long as your post!

Oh, also on the train of thought of obesity: Have you and Erin seen "Super Size Me"? I show it in one of my classes, and we just finished watching it. If you want to borrow it, you can. But I warn: You will never feel the same about Micky D's again.

But maybe that's a good thing.
